Senior Sam Lockhart (Grand Valley State) easily defended her NCAA Division II weight throw title on Thursday in Birmingham, Alabama. Lockhart, who improved to 21.50m this season had a best throw of 21.05m at the championships. That mark ties for the third best of her career. Four of her five legal throws also outdistanced runner-up Jessica Rowland (Findlay). Rowland, who had also thrown over 21 meters earlier in this season, was slightly off form with a few fouls and produced her shortest mark of the season. Third place went to Carly Fehringer (Wayne State), whose last round personal best moved her from fifth to third. Complete women's results are available here.

Throwing powerhouse Ashland University had a strong showing in the men's weight throw, taking home 20 points with a first, third, and fifth place finish. Richard Quick (Ashland) led the way. Quick threw a season's best of 20.81m to win by more than a meter over Ryan Smith (Indianapolis). Smith had the same best mark as Garrett Grey (Ashland), however Smith's second best mark was better and delivered him the silver medal. Complete men's results are available here.
