When it comes to the SIU track and field team, you can depend upon coach John Smith’s throwers to be at or near the top of the leader board every meet as they were Saturday at the unscored Saluki Fast Start track meet.

Since joining SIU in 2004, Smith has produced 52 conference champions, 45 All-Americans, five national champions and one USA champ. His most recent successes are Jeneva McCall and local product J.C. Lambert from Harrisburg. While both have graduated, they still train with Smith.
