Bombaugh wins weight throw, leads Louisville Track and Field at BIG EAST championships

GENEVA, Ohio – Junior Sam Bombaugh secured his first career weight throw title, and the University of Louisville track and field teams finished the first day of competition at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships in Geneva, Ohio, with the men and women in the top five of their respective team standings.

A Falmouth, Mass., native, Bombaugh registered a winning throw of 19.99m/65-7 for his first BIG EAST crown. His opening throw of the event would have given him the victory, but he ensured the win by hitting his season best twice to distance himself from the group. His 10-point contribution is a major reason for Louisville’s tie for second place in the team race. Vivace added to the team’s point total with a seventh-place finish in the event.
